Our Mission: Empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable
World Relief is distinguished from other relief and development organizations by our direct partnership with local churches, both in the United States and throughout the world. We believe that something wholly unique and special happens when the Church unites to stand with the vulnerable—offering its talents, resources and time to the transforming work God is doing throughout the world.
Refugees and survivors of human trafficking from around the world are coming to the triad and this presents an amazing opportunity for the church to fulfill its calling to welcome “the stranger” (Deut 10: 19, Lev 19:34, Isa 58:7, Matt 25:35) and to proclaim the gospel to “all nations” (Matt 24:14, Matt 28:19, Luke 24:47).
Refugees and survivors of human trafficking desperately need people who will care about them and provide community and support. They need the church! Your church can help bring transformation into the lives of the most vulnerable.
"They welcomed us in a way that even your family wouldn't do for you… We're grateful for this connection, this human-to-human connection.”
- Refugee Welcomed by a Good Neighbor Team
As churches help bring transformation into the lives of refugees and survivors of human trafficking they find themselves transformed as well.
“After several years of minimal participation in church activities, I am now fully engaged in a bible study group, help plan international potlucks at our church, and am an active member of the international team. I firmly believe that the strengthening of my faith and the renewal of connections at church is no accident; it is a direct result of heeding God's call to help refugees."

Ways That Your Church Can Get Involved
Good Neighbor Team
A Good Neighbor Team (GNT) is a small group of 5-15 people from a local church or community group that partners with World Relief to welcome and walk alongside a newly arrived refugee family. Good Neighbor Teams seek to provide support, community, and mutually beneficial relationship with their partnered refugees. Take a look at this Good Neighbor Team Guide to learn more.
The Welcome Team is made up of individuals, families, or groups who provide a warm welcome to refugees as they first arrive in America. Welcome Team members meet refugees at the Piedmont Intl Airport (GSO) to welcome them, help navigate baggage claim, provide transportation to the refugee’s new home, and spend some time orienting them to their new home.
Home Setup Team
The Home Setup Teams are made up of individuals, families, or groups who serve refugees by setting up a home for them prior to their arrival. Home setup teams take on two forms: Some teams are scheduled to assist World Relief in setting up homes with supplies provided by World Relief. Other teams gather all the furniture and items needed and then coordinate with World Relief to gain access to a home that they can then setup for a family.
Refugees often flee their homes at a moment’s notice, leaving behind most everything they own. They arrive at a U.S. airport with few belongings, a difficult past, and high hopes for the future. Welcome Kits provide an opportunity to mobilize your church to help support these individuals and families. Gather the items in the Welcome Kit, pack it, deliver it to World Relief, and we will use it to help prepare a home for an arriving refugee family or survivor of human trafficking. By partnering financially with World Relief High Point & Winston-Salem on a monthly or annual basis, your church will contribute to the overall support of refugees and survivors of human trafficking, and enable World Relief to continue and grow in our support of churches and others we empower to serve. Monthly and annual contributors help World Relief leverage our expertise and empower the church to serve the vulnerable in North Carolina. With initiatives that focus on disaster response, health and child development, refugee and immigration services, economic development and peace-building, we work holistically with the local church to stand for the sick, the widowed, the orphaned, the alienated, the displaced, the devastated, the marginalized, and the disenfranchised around the world. By joining World Relief as a multi-year partner, we invite you into a relationship with World Relief and other churches from the U.S. and around the world to both bless and be blessed. The skills, abilities, and resources in your church will be used to help churches in your partner country, and the way God has gifted those churches will, in turn, be a blessing to you.
